The KGTE Typewriting English Higher Grade examination tests advanced speed and accuracy at 45 Words Per Minute over 10 minutes (2,250 key depressions). Paper I is evaluated on a 100-mark scale where each mistake deducts 1.25 marks. Candidates must achieve at least 40.00 marks (40%) on the 450-word speed passage. Higher Grade certification is required for higher-tier typist positions, confidential assistants, and fast-track departmental promotions in Kerala Government.
